These two publications are the result of the monitoring of commemorative practices dedicated to the 1990s war conflicts, organized by the state institutions, victims’ associations and civil society organizations over the past 10 months.

In 2020, the shift in the joint commemoration of victims of Operation Storm by Croatian and Serbian political leaders seemed to encourage commemorations in other countries in the region to move away from dominant ethnonationalistic monopolies and self-victimization. During the presentation, Kaltrina Fejzullahu (YIHR Kosovo) and Marko Milosavljevic (YIHR Serbia) will discuss how the commemorative practices related to the war break-up of Yugoslavia and war crimes looked in the previous year in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Montenegro.

The discussion will be held in English, on the Zoom platform. If you would like to participate in the discussion, ask questions or comment on the findings of the publications, please register here.

The conference titled “Commemorations of the 1990s wars during 2021” is part of a joint project “To Reconcile is to Reinforce” implemented by YIHR Serbia, YIHR Bosnia and Herzegovina, YIHR Kosovo, and YIHR Montenegro with the support of the Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN) and the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (SIDA).
